Fall Y’all Table Runner Crochet Pattern

Bring the warmth of fall straight to your table with the Fall Y’all Table Runner. This beginner-friendly crochet table runner combines simple half double crochet stitches, bold fall inspired color blocking, pointed ends, and optional tassels for a cozy handmade finish. The original design uses five colors to create its striped look, but one of the best things about this pattern is how easily you can customize the palette to coordinate with your own home décor.

The pattern includes three finished sizes, so you can make a runner for everything from a small coffee or console table to a long farmhouse-style dinning table. The entire runner is worked flat in rows from one pointed end to the other. If you can work a half double crochet, increase, decrease, and change colors, you can make this pattern.

Behind the Design

Fall décor is one of my favorite ways to make a home feel warm and inviting, and I wanted this table runner to have that cozy handmade feel without using a complicated stitch pattern. Instead of relying on intricate texture, the Fall Y’all Table Runner gets its character from its shape and color placement. You begin with one stitch and gradually increase along both edges to form the first point. Once the full width is reached, the center is worked in simple striped sections. The opposite end is then decreased at the same rate, giving the runner its symmetrical pointed shape. Add the optional tassels for an extra decorative touch, or leave them off for a clean, modern finish.

Skill Level & What You'll Learn

While making this pattern, you'll practice several useful crochet techniques, including working in turned rows, increasing at both ends of a row, decreasing with half double crochet stitches, maintaining an even stitch count, changing colors, and reading repeated row instructions. By the end of the project, you'll have a beautiful handmade piece for your fall decor while also building confidence with shaping, colorwork, blocking, and finishing-all techniques you can carry into future crochet projects.

Why you’ll love this Pattern

The Fall Y’all Table Runner is the perfect project when you want something simple to crochet but still beautiful enough to make a statement in your fall décor. Because the pattern is worked primarily in half double crochet, it has an easy, relaxing rhythm that makes it approachable for confident beginners while still being enjoyable for more experienced crocheter. The gradual increases and decreases create the pointed ends, giving the runner a little extra shape without making the construction complicated.

You’ll also love how easy this design is to customize as well. The original pattern uses five coordinating fall colors to create the striped look, but you can completely change the feel of the runner simply by switching up your palette. Go, traditional with rust, pumpkin, cream, and brown, choose soft neutrals for a farmhouse look or use colors that coordinate with the décor you already have at home.

This pattern is practical seasonal project, a beautiful piece of handmade home décor, and a fun way to bring a little more crochet into your fall decorating.

About the Yarn

The yarn chosen for the project was Wool of the Andes Yarn. Wool of the Andes Worsted is our iconic workhorse wool! Made from 100% Peruvian Highland wool, it’s the perfect yarn for projects that will get used daily, like your favorite sweater, hat, or blanket. Peruvian Highland wool is a strong fiber that has an excellent balance of structure, loft, and drape. Wonderfully warm for all weather, this sturdy, all-purpose yarn has excellent stitch definition and heirloom durability. As a worsted weight yarn, it’s a happy medium weight that’s commonly used for everything from garments to home goods, and Wool of the Andes’ extensive color palette is just as versatile as the yarn itself, with dozens of solids and heathers to choose from.

Yarn Substitutions

A wool or wool-blend yarn will give you a finished runner that is closest to the original, especially when it comes to stitch definition, structure, and blocking. However, acrylic, acrylic blends, and cotton can also work well if you prefer a different fiber.

Here’s what to look for in a when choosing your yarn substitute for this pattern

  • Yarn weight : Worsted #4

  • Gauge: 14 hdc and 10 rows 4”

  • Approximate yardage: About 110yds per 50g

  • Texture: Smooth enough to show the half double crochet stitches clearly

  • Structure: A yarn that holds the pointed ends and color- blocked shape well

♡ Yarn Substitutions
For the best results, choose a #4 Worsted Weight yarn with similar yardage, structure, and fiber content to WeCrochet Wool of the Andes Worsted. Always make a gauge swatch before beginning, since differences in yarn thickness and fiber can affect the finished size, drape, and amount of yarn needed.
My #1 Choice

Cascade 220

Weight: #4 Worsted
Fiber: 100% Peruvian Highland Wool
Yardage: Approx. 220 yds / 100 g

My closest overall substitute for the original yarn. Cascade 220 offers beautiful stitch definition, excellent structure, and blocks very well, making it a great option for maintaining the look and shape of the Fall Y'all Table Runner.

Premium Option

Knit Picks Swish Worsted

Weight: #4 Worsted
Fiber: 100% Superwash Merino Wool
Yardage: Approx. 110 yds / 50 g

A beautiful choice if you prefer a softer wool. Swish Worsted has a smooth finish and great stitch definition while still giving the runner enough structure for the pointed ends and color-block design.

Easy-Care Option

Lion Brand Wool-Ease

Weight: #4 Worsted
Fiber: 80% Acrylic / 20% Wool
Yardage: Approx. 197 yds / 85 g

A practical substitute if you want something easier to care for while still keeping some of the warmth and structure of wool. It's also a nice option for crocheters looking for a more budget-friendly yarn.

Gauge

The gauge in this pattern is important if you want your finished runner to closely match the measurements listed in the sizing section of the pattern.

14 hdc and 10 rows = 4” after blocking using a 5.0 mm crochet hook

Because the table runner does not require garment-style-fit, being slightly off gauge is generally okay. Just remember that a tighter gauge will create a smaller runner, while a looser gauge will make the finished piece larger and may require additional yarn.

Finished Measurements

The size shown in the in the pattern is medium. This size gives you a approx. size of 18”x60”.

Small - 14”x48” Center Stitch Count- 46 sts

Medium- 18”x60” Center Stitch Count - 58 sts

Large- 22”x72” Center Stitch Count- 70 sts

Pattern Notes
♡ The ch 1 used at the beginning or end of a row does not count as a stitch. Turn your work after every row.
♡ The pattern is written from Small (Medium, Large). When only one instruction is given, it applies to all sizes.
♡ Use stitch markers in the first and last stitch if you have trouble identifying the edge stitches.
♡ For clean color changes, work the final hdc of the current color until 3 loops remain on the hook. Complete the final YO with the new color, then turn and continue with the new color.

Construction

The Fall Y’all Table Runner is worked flat in turned rows from one pointed end to the other. You’ll begin by increasing at both ends of each row until the runner reaches its full width. Next, you’ll work the center section evenly while changing colors to create the striped design. To finish, you’ll decrease at both ends of each row to create the matching point on the opposite side.

Blocking Your Table Runner

For wool yarn, place the finished runner in lukewarm water with a small amount of wool wash and allow the fibers to become fully saturated. Gently remove the runner without twisting or wringing it. Press out excess water, then roll inside a towel and then press again. Place the runner on the blocking mats and carefully shape it to the finished measurements for your chosen size. Allow the runner to fully dry before removing the pins.

Optional Tassels

Make 2 tassels. For each tassel, cut approx. five 18” strands of each color. Lay the strands together evenly . Tie a separate piece of yarn securely around the center of the bundle. Fold the strands in half at the center tie. Wrap another piece of yarn or decorative twine around the bundle. Secure the knot. Trim the bottom so they are even. Lightly steam or straighten the strands if needed, taking care to use a method appropriate for your yarn fiber.
